I was reading this post on Sweet Arrogance’s blog and I’ve thought about this subject so many times that I had to comment, although I’m not in the commenting or negotiating mood. First, I wanna give Sweet Arrogance the thumbs up for bringing up such an intriguing topic (Y). I started writing her a comment when I realized it was getting too long of a comment that I thought I’d post it in my blog. I accidentally erased the whole thing so I’m gonna write it all over again here. And just to make it clear, I totally respect, admire and somewhat agree with your opinion Sweet Arrogance =)

It is a fact that where ever we go nowadays, we see those make-up abusers. It became such a common thing that I am surprised it still provokes me to see such faces! The subject was once brought up in our lobby while waiting for classes. It was really interesting to hear the abusers’ point of view. Oh and just to point out, I don’t hold a grudge against those people. Some of them make good company. Anyhow, during the conversation I discovered something, those gurlz are perfectly aware of their excess use of make-up. They know exactly how much is too much and how much is just the much. This however does not stop them. One of them said, “I know I use a lot of make-up but it makes me feel better, so what’s the big deal?” This statement made me get into a deep hmming session. I mean it is after all their personal choice. True, they do present our country in some way but this does not mean we should set criteria for people to follow in their clothes, food, behaviors.. etc. I mean that will be totally fake, just as fake as make-up can make people. I value honesty. I believe it is a very important virtue. But there is something that I value more; peace of my mind. If make-up will get those people their peace of mind, so be it. If make-up is gonna make those people feel complete, so be it. If those people will present a bad image of our country, so be it. As long as this image is sincere!

I think it is a matter of time until those faces start to fade away. I mean it took the western society decades to cope with cosmetics, why should our society be any different? I’m sorry to say that of course, for our religion sets us worlds apart but let’s not get into that subject now. Back to fading away, someday these people will know better and will do better. I have faith in our ignorant society. I have faith that one day we will look around and see what pleases the eyes. I really do =)

My regards to Sweet Arrogance and to you.
